LUS Comes to the Rescue of Relocated Businesses with Immediate Connection to Fiber

Lafayette Utilities System Director Terry Huval announced today that LUS had added the eleventh wholesaler to the LUS Powered Network. Global Technology Group (GTG) is the most recent local company to complete contract negotiations to retail LUS fiber optic broadband capacity for business market resale.  LUS and Lafayette Consolidated Government officials were on hand to welcome GTG to the network.

GTG is a truly global provider of integrated technology support solutions for companies with mission critical operations, primarily in the healthcare, energy, and defense industries. The LUS Powered Network will enable GTG to greatly expand their solutions offerings in the Lafayette market which include consulting, integration, and engineering services; contract technical personnel, especially in harsh environments; managed services, hosting and co-location; and broadband connectivity to its growing list of customers.  “As a provider of mission critical IT support solutions, GTG considers the LUS fiber network a critical part of our integrated solution strategy.” says John Poindexter, CEO.

In 1998, the Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) responded to the technology needs of Lafayette, Louisiana by establishing a strategic community broadband project.  A telecommunications business model was created to benefit the community by focusing on furthering the digital evolution, enabling economic development, and improving the quality of life within Lafayette.  The result of this effort is the carrier class deployment of the LUS Powered Network, a 65-mile, 96-strand SONET-based fiber infrastructure providing wholesale broadband and high-speed Internet access with direct connections to Tier 1 providers.  As a municipally owned utility, LUS and the Powered Network have made Lafayette the only city in Louisiana to implement this type of infrastructure.

The LUS Powered Network is helping to light the way for the future of technology in the Lafayette community by providing wholesale telecommunications services at competitive pricing, and currently includes eleven Lafayette based technology companies that are contracted to retail fiber optic broadband services to their customers.  During Hurricane Lili, the LUS Powered Network never lost transmission of it fiber optic services and none of its customers suffered data loss or network downtime.

Terry Huval, Director of LUS, says “LUS is moving Lafayette into the future by offering the telecommunications infrastructure services of the fiber optic network to local telecommunications wholesalers.  The LUS Powered Network welcomes Global Technology Group and offers them the same quality and reliability of services that LUS has provided to the community for over 100 years.”
