Scenario #1 10MBS Internet Service
Service Provider Requirements:
An ISP needs to provide 10MBS of Internet service to several locations around the Lafayette metropolitan area. This particular Internet distribution network does not require individual Internet bandwidth speeds or special Internet routing considerations for each customer, however if in the future, the ISP requires individual Internet bandwidth speeds and/or special Internet routing considerations for each customer, multiple VLANs and CPE equipment could be configured to address those particular needs.
LUS Solution:
LUS provides 10MBS of Internet content on Ethernet connections that are encapsulated on a common 802.1q VLAN for the designated locations. The individual connection bandwidths are unregulated and share the same full 10MBS path to the Internet. The customer provides the routers with a 10MBS 802.3 interface that has the ability of encapsulating 802.1q VLAN traffic. The last mile fiber extension and transceivers for the copper to fiber conversions are provided by LUS.
Scenario #1 Diagram (PDF)
LUS Services Included:
- Dedicated 10Mb VLAN Packet Service
- 10MBS Dedicated Internet Access
- Last Mile Service
Optional LUS Services:
- LUS provided and managed CPE Service
- Additional VLANs for customer grouping

Scenario #1.1 10MBS Internet Service
Service Provider Requirements:
An ISP needs to provide 10MBS of Internet service to several locations around the Lafayette metropolitan area. This particular Internet distribution requires individual Internet bandwidth speeds and/or special Internet routing considerations for each customer. The provider also needs to provide value added services in addition to the Internet Access; these services include E-Mail, DNS, Reverse DNS Lookups, Web Hosting, and Managed Services. The ISP customers access links will have the bandwidth regulated by the providers own routers and provisioned by the ISP as needed.
LUS Solution:
LUS provides 10MBS of Internet content on an Ethernet connection that is encapsulated on a 802.1q VLAN for the ISP's main location and the 10MBS VLAN Packet Service on Ethernet connections that are encapsulated on a common 802.1q VLAN for the designated ISP customer locations. The individual connection bandwidths are unregulated and share the same full 10MBS path to the ISP's main location. The customer provides the routers with a 10MBS 802.3 interface that has the ability of encapsulating 802.1q VLAN traffic and regulating bandwidth for each customer location. The last mile fiber extension and transceivers for the copper to fiber conversions are provided by LUS.
Scenario #1.1 Diagram (PDF)
LUS Services Included:
- Dedicated 10Mb VLAN Packet Service (with 2-VLANs)
- 10MBS Dedicated Internet Access
- Last Mile Service
Optional LUS Services:
- LUS provided and managed CPE Service
- Additional VLANs for customer grouping
- BGP Routing

SCENARIO 2 20MBS Internet Backhaul with Ethernet Broadband Distribution
Service Provider Requirements:
An ISP needs to provide 20MBS of Internet bandwidth to its existing facility while also providing up to 10MBS of Internet service to several locations around the Lafayette metropolitan area. This particular Internet distribution network requires individual Internet bandwidth speeds for each ISP customer.
LUS Solution:
LUS provides 20MBS of Internet content via a DS-3 TDM circuit to the ISP‘s router at the designated location. This DS-3 is configured to provide the ISP the exact increment of Internet bandwidth needed by the provider for maximum profitability (ranges from 3-45MBS, but in this case is configured for 20MBS. The remote ISP customer sites are equipped with routers that have the ability to regulate throughput on an individual basis as needed (these routers can be owned and managed by the ISP or LUS). The routers provides the ISP the ability to change the connection speed for any of its customers very quickly. This distribution network consists of one or more 802.1q VLANS on the LUS Shared Packet Ring to effectively manage the ISP customer's traffic. The routers are equipped with a 10MBS 802.3 MAN interface that has the ability of encapsulating 802.1q VLAN traffic. The MAN interface on each ISP customer router is configured to regulate the bandwidth use for that individual customer. The individual connection bandwidths managed by the ISP share the same full 10MBS path to the Internet. The last mile fiber extension and transceivers for the copper to fiber conversions were provided by LUS.

LUS Services Offered:
- DS-3 TDM Broadband Service
- 20MBS Dedicated Internet Access
- 10MbVLAN Shared Packet Service
- Last Mile Service
Optional LUS Services:
- LUS provided and managed CPE
- Additional VLANs for customer grouping

SCENARIO 3 DS-3 Broadband Service POP to POP
Service Provider Requirements:
A telecommunications service provider needs four DS-3 circuits from one service provider POP to another service provider POP within the Lafayette City metropolitan area. This broadband service requires full SONET protection and redundancy at both service drop points.
LUS Solution:
LUS provides four Telcordia-compliant, GR-499 DS-3 ports with 1:N protection at each service provider POP. The circuits are un-channelized 44.736 Mbps circuits that are provisioned and tested prior to delivery to the customer. The circuits provided by LUS are transported on the LUS SONET system that meets the Bellcore GR-253-CORE, Synchronous Optical Network Systems Common Generic Criteria. Customer Maintenance and Support is provided 24x7x365 by LUS personnel and approved contractors using advanced Network Management Platforms.

SCENARIO 4 20MBS Internet Backhaul with T-1 Broadband Distribution
Service Provider Requirements:
An ISP needs to provide 20MBS of Internet bandwidth to its existing facility while also providing up to 1.5MBS of Internet service to several locations around the Lafayette metropolitan area. This particular Internet distribution network requires individual Internet bandwidth speeds for each ISP customer.
LUS Solution:
LUS provides 20MBS of Internet content via a DS-3 TDM circuit to the ISP‘s router at the designated location. This DS-3 is configured to provide the ISP the exact increment of Internet bandwidth needed by the provider for maximum profitability (ranges from 3-45MBS, but in this case configured for 20MBS). The remote ISP customer sites are equipped with routers that have the ability to regulate throughput on an individual basis as needed (These routers can be owned and managed by the ISP or LUS). The routers provide the ISP the ability to change the connection speed for any of its customers very quickly. This distribution network consists of three T-1 Point-to-Point SONET protected circuits to supply the ISP's T-1 Internet customers access. The routers are equipped with a T-1 interface that is configured to regulate the bandwidth use for that individual customer. The individual connection bandwidths managed by the ISP share the same full 20MBS path to the Internet through the DS-3 circuit. The last mile fiber extension and transceivers for the copper to fiber conversions are provided by LUS.
